WTF!?

So what the hell is a Douchebag Maneuver?

Well, douchebagmaneuvers.com, the leading authority on the subject, defines the term as follows:

Douchebag Maneuver
An intended or controlled deviation from normal social behaviour due to arrogance, lack of empathy, or insensitivity.
origin: from douchebag (perjorative term dating from 1960's) the term douchebag maneuver came into use around the year 2000, and was introduced into the mainstream through Garner Andrews morning radio show.

We all know the douche bag stereotypes.

But what is behind the audacious clothing, orange tans, and gym routines? Ostentatious displays of braggadocio. We have loud colors and patterns to imply loud and insensitive behaviours; overt pricetags and boastful muscle displays that imply both social and physical power to offensively demean and diminish others.

Or consider the compactly expressive Bluetooth headset- combining ostentatious display with the suggestion that insensitively loud conversations will happen in inappropriate areas, with people who by implication are more important than you.

But are these behaviour patterns unique to Ed Hardy wearing, spray tanned, blow out haired gym monkeys, or BMW driving, blue tooth wearing, gold chain hanging DB's?

We love to take offense at these specimens only because they are egregious examples of the behaviours that outrage us everyday. When that driver races up the side of the road to the front of a traffic jam (breaking social norms to assert his own importance over everyone else) what do you say? Douche. Bag. This is a douchebag maneuver. It is an action from everyday life that pushes its author into the douchebag category.

At DBM ground zero, we took this picture at a game and felt like venting somewhere. Doesn't this behaviour deserve to be posted for the world to see and discuss? So, in a douchebag maneuver of our own, we stole the douchebag maneuvers concept from Garner Andrews and made this site.

Yesterdays jerk is todays douchebag. Yesterdays homogeneous social categorization of douchebags, is todays pluralistic assumption that douchebags are not alone- douchebag maneuvers are everywhere. Some will make you want to vent your rage; some will make you laugh; and some you might even have sympathy for. But lets have the conversation. Here is your space.

There are no douchebags, there are only douchebag maneuvers.
